The Shinobi Guide

i made this guide in the days when 171k was the best score in the game, imagine that.
there were guides before that to 60k... ;-)
anyway, since then i stopped playing the game but occasionally updated this site with tips from other players.
Shinobi has posted a great guide to score BIG.
be sure to check it out!

smax tips for 258k

saving every last gold you can in the early levels is absolutely key so you get the best effect from your interest. as pyro said, the best build order for the first 3 levels is:
1: 1
2: 1+
3: 1++
keep this one tower up to air level 8. you will probably leak on 6 and you will definitely leak on 7, but you will always start level 8 with more cash than if you built 2 towers to stop the leaks.

on first boss instead of 2 fully upgraded arrows, you can beat the boss with 3 carefully placed arrow towers: 1++, 1+, and, and 1 with no upgrade at all. this saves you 26g which is HUGE in the long run with interest. you should also place the un-upgraded tower near the end, so you can sell the two more expensive towers before the round ends and save even more money.

for level 12, 2++ is fine.

3++,1 air is good enough for 2nd air with good placement, as is just 4 arrow towers for boss 2 with good placement. 3rd air i find 8++ is more than enough.

pyro's directions for the levels past 13 worked pretty good for me.

if you beat 38 just fine or with only a couple leaks, then you are done building. for 39 just buy lives as needed.

tip for stacking: if you are having trouble stacking where you want, place the white square where you want it and right-click to bring up flash settings. then move your mouse to the edge and the white square won't move. 1 left click and the tower should be placed. Smile

another improvement by pyrogear

here's another quote form pyrogear on how to improve the 171 strategy.

"A slightly better build is to full upgrade the initial cannon for level 3. After levels 3 and 4, you have less gold, but by the end of 5, you will have 2 extra gold, and the same full cannon. There is some variation in the game. The creeps don't move uniformly, and the cannons get off shots in different places, splashing different places. With one cannon on level 6, I have occassionally had no leaks, and had as many as 5 leaks with the same placement. One cannon will also sometimes be sufficient for level 7, but in both cases, usually not. Another improvement is to just have the 1++, 1+ for level 10, then add 2 fully upgraded arrow towers for the boss (as Jsmith said). Level 11 only needs 2++, saving a little more. The second boss can be killed with one leak with 7 cannon and 5 arrow towers. The last boss with one leak by adding 7 arrow towers.

255k by pyrogear

Pyrogear took the system I made for the 171k and made some adjustments to it to get to 255k.
here is what he wrote at the forum:

"New world champion, for a couple hours I hope. I made at least 5 or 6 mistakes costing a few thousand points, so go for it, my score can definitely be beat.

I used the same strategy that has been posted several times on here before that lemonhead just used for his high score. Always upgrade interest, and use primarily cannon. I also used overlap, and don't believe you can score this high on the current game without it.

A couple of observations:

As has been stated before, the best place for cannons is the upper right corner. This allows the maximum path length in between passes, which is especially important for fast levels. I believe the single best spot for a cannon is half a cannon to the right of the spot exactly on the outside corner of the upper right part of the middle of the path. That would be half a cannon to the right of the first cannon placed in the 171k video.

That's your first cannon. Second canner overlaps half on it's left side. The rest are built below them, from right to left (for some reason it is easier to overlap on the left side and the bottom than the right side and the top). Cannons placed further into this corner, both above and to the left across the top of the screen are not good cannon locations. It looks good, but the extreme end of the path is not a good spot. Put one there and notice how many fewer shots get fired than your other cannons.

Continue down the right side until you get 2 cannons around the lower bend. Then place them in the left side of the middle of the board, starting from the right, so that every cannon hits two seperate parts of the path. Once you fill this all the way to the edge, go back to the first set of cannon, and continue building left, stopping about 2 cannon widths from the end of the grass. Then build across the top, starting with the furthest spot to the right that will hit the first bend in the path, and making sure that all the cannons also hit the center part of the path. Continue all the way to the left edge, but don't go down and fill in around the bend. Any further cannons than the ones I have listed are inefficiently placed (except for a few more at the top right that may be useful only on the very last level, but probably aren't worth the gold).

All in all, I followed the 'try it' blog directions, with the arrow cannon for bosses adjustment. I found that I needed a second cannon on level 6. Once you get to the 13 cannon step, you don't need as many as the list says. You need 15, 17, 18 cannon, rather than 17, 21 ... add 10 more for the fast/immune level, 10 more for the level after that, then add roughly 20 and 30 the next two levels, and about 30 a level after that until you have all the spots I described filled in. After that, it's time to buy new lives. There is an optimum # of cannons for each level, but I really don't have the time to figure it out. You should be letting at least 3-5 creeps through on the bonus levels. I way overbuilt this last game, and killed them all on the 10k and 15k hit points, which is a waste of gold. It takes a lot of cannon to get those last couple creeps because the cannons always target the front of the line, and just don't get enough shots in on the back.

I'm not sure about the sell all your cannon on the last level. If you notice, the gold you get back comes off your score. I don't know if it gets added back in as I have not tested that.

For the boss levels, level 11, add 2 fully upgraded arrow towers and sell before the end of the level. Level 22, add 5 arrow towers to the 8 cannon you have, and it should leak once. It is not worth it to kill it in one pass. I believe level 33 can be killed with one leak by adding 7 arrow cannon (maybe Cool, I think I used 6 and didn't quite kill it on the second pass. The best spots for arrow cannon are the 3 inside corners of the inside of the path (when upgraded they hit the outer path in 2 spots), and then a row of them on the lower inside of the center where they hit most of the middle plus a good portion of the bottom of the path.

Good luck. Go out there and get 250k. It is definitely possible.

171k

here is my way to score 171,000+.
all upgrades are interest.
you could score a bit more if you overlap towers towards the end. i was not up to the boring task, sorry ;-)
first number stands for level second number for number of tower.
1-simple tower
1+ - once upgraded
1++ twice upgraded
do not worry about an occasional leak.
1:1
2:1+
3:1+,1
4:2+ - sell one before level ends
5:1++
6:1++
7:1++,1
8:AIR - 1+ positioned middle bottom, 1 positioned to hit end area, sell the 1+ before end and the 1 at the end of level
9:1++,1+
10:1++,1+
11:5++ sell 2 before end of level
12:3++
13:3++
14:3++
15:3++
16:3++
17: Air - use tactics of level 8 with 3++ and 1+
18:5++
19:7++, sell 1 before end
20:6++
21:7++,1+
22:15++, goes through 3 times, sell 7 before end
23:8++
24:9++
25:10++
26:14++ sell as many as possible before end of turn
27: Air tactics - 9++ sell all of course
28:13++
29:17++
30:21++
31:24++
32:35++
33:35++ leaks twice.
34:50++
35: 65++
36-39 fill as much as you can (100++), buy lives if necessary.
sell as much as you can before the end of level 39 to get a bigger final bonus there.
